Here is a picture of the page from the April issue
And here is a picture of a pattern page from the March issue
Can you see the difference? All the previous issues of Burda that I have in my possession have pages A to H (8 pages) yet this latest issue has only got pages A to D i.e. all the patterns have been printed on to 4 pages. It’s a crazy maze and makes working out what lines you have to trace, and identifying the pattern markings, very difficult. Has anyone else noticed this or have I got one of a weird batch? I am hoping that this is only a temporary glitch and that next month normal service will be resumed, otherwise I’m going to have to get some new spectacles or maybe an industrial standard magnifying glass!
However, I persevered and did manage to trace the skirt pattern – thankfully it’s only four pieces – and I’m pleased to report that it’s coming together very well indeed. I shopped my stash for the fabric and picked out some lovely black wool crepe which has just the right amount of drape for the flounce at the hem. I am now working on the finishing touches but here is a sneak peak …..
….. of the bow before I stitch it to the back. I just love bows!
More soon ……….
the skirt looks really lovely. Can't wait to see the final product1
ReplyDeleteWow, spaghetti junction! I agree that this is a lot worse, almost to the point of rendering the pattern pieces un-trace-able.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I traced out skirt #111 and almost had a seizure with all the red, blue, green, yellow, black lines intersecting in front of my eyes! Can't wait to see your skirt.
ReplyDeleteI love that skirt pattern! Definitely a must sew for this month. I haven't even looked at the pattern sheets yet. Uh oh...
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks, something to look forward to. I just ordered that issue for the skirt and a couple of blouse patterns. Can't wait to see your skirt.
ReplyDeleteNo, you're not crazy! I'm really disappointed in the new Burda. I like some of the patterns quite a bit but not enough to fight that maze of lines, at least yet. I'm wondering if I will be continuing my subscription. Looking forward to seeing your skirt.
ReplyDeleteI got my issue in Austria and it is the same way - only A-D for pages. A real maze. I am thinking of making 3 items from this issue and last night my DH and I were looking for the lines of just one - yikes!
ReplyDeleteOh, my. How confusing. I sure hope they don't continue to do it this way.
ReplyDeleteThat would certainly confound me! I bought a December Burda and remember thinking they could spend just a few more cents per magazine for more pattern coverage in terms of actual patterns per page for cutouts. Now, this would put me over the edge. I'm a beginner, and this makes me run screaming the other direction. What a shame - I still can't wait to see your skirt!
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes! That is insane!
ReplyDeleteI love bows, too and the one above is really cute. Can't wait to see the finished skirt!
Wow. How confusing! Of course, short of subscribing, I have yet to even find a Burda Magazine anywhere, so I suppose I've been spared. But dying to try a BWOF pattern (I guess because I can't find one).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, gorgeous fabric! Can't wait to see the entire finished thing!
Eek! I haven't yet looked at the pattern pages yet, but I found it confusing enough when it was just 8 pages! You are a stronger woman than me to have persevered!
ReplyDeleteUgggg! I traced a dress out of the March issue, but haven't touched this month yet. That is discouraging. Love the bow for the sneak peak.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the English version but when I bought my German magazine when it came out I saw a very little note on the editorial page saying that they made an effort for the environment and now please let us be happy about it ...
ReplyDeleteI have been hearing about this and dreading it! This will make grading even more fun...
ReplyDeleteYikes, I'm getting a headache just looking at that page. I can't imagine having to make sense of it to trace a pattern. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the skirt, though!
Oh dear that would make my head hurt! It is interesting that about 15 years ago Sew Beautiful magazine featured a bow shirt much like Burda's. Yes, I made the skirt.
ReplyDeleteWow, isn't that confusing!!! It's good you were brave and managed to get your skirt pieces. I hope they wise up at Burda and refrain from such madness!
ReplyDeleteI haven't unfolded the pattern sheets yet, but it looks like they're going back to the old days, your picture reminds me of the pattern sheets like they used to be and of which I still have quite a few. Silly of Burda, to make it more difficult.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I just traced my first pattern from 02-2010 and I thought that was too many lines. Looks like your skirt is coming along nicely!
ReplyDeleteI love that skirt! And yeah, I just opened up my pattern sheets and just stared in amazement. I ended up using a highlighter to mark the pattern I wanted to trace. What a crazy mess that is with only 4 pages instead of 8!!
ReplyDeleteI used to sew from Burda many years ago, and that is how I remember them to be - 4 sheets with the margin full of location numbers! Maybe they are trying to save paper!
ReplyDeletewhoa! im not looking forward to tracing from this....yuck....
ReplyDeleteI noticed that too and was none too pleased to see they consolidated all the patterns on 4 sheets! I had to sharpy in the pieces I wanted to trace, but this could be a problem if I make several garments from one sheet!
ReplyDeletei too noticed the sudden change from A-H to A-D pages....i purchase the dutch version, making reading a little more difficult as im english but i too had no patience for this hideous-ness....& have u noticed they might be saving on paper but the mag is not getting cheaper ?? hmm...i think we should all draft a little note to burda asking 'WTF is up?'
