Helen, Catherine, Claire and me |
Naturally all of us wore something that we hade made. Helen's stunning colourful top, Catherine's amazing plaid dress, Claire's fabulous Sorbetto top and Elizabeth's super-cool linen pants perfectly showcased their wonderful sewing skills. Oh, and the skirt I am wearing was made by, yes, me!
We shopped at Liberty then trawled the fabric stores of Berwick Street. We laughed at shiny, sparkly theatrical polyesters and swooned over wildly expensive embellished silks. Have you ever cut into a piece of fabric costing £150 (USD 245) per metre? Phew!
We finally settled ourselves into one of Soho's characterful public houses for a well-earned drink, where we were joined by the lovely Karen, from Did You Make That? I am so sorry that I missed meeting Melissa, from Fehr Trade who joined the party just after I had to leave.
There is nothing like spending some time with like-minded people who sew to inspire you and reinforce your love of sewing. Do it whenever you can - I heartily recommend it!
Sounds like a fabulous time was had by all!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to be able to talk sewing to like minded people. Sounds like you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteI was so desperate to come to this! But I am staying with my parents in Bristol so I was too far away to get into London. I am now Wholeheartedly jealous but glad you all had a fab time! I will be there for the next one!

ReplyDeleteSounds like so much fun! And tell, tell, do tell about your fabulous skirt - what pattern is it?
ReplyDeleteMelissaB.
Hi MelissaB. Thanks for the very nice compliment on my skirt. The pattern is Vogue 2647 (which is now out out of print). Here is the link to my original blog post about this skirt http://theworldofeugenia.blogspot.com/2011/01/vogue-2047-simplicity-2599.html
ReplyDeleteI'd love to come next time please, if you can let me know!

ReplyDeleteOh that sounds good, people's eyes always glaze over when I talk about sewing no matter how exciting I try and make it sound. I hope you had a great day.
ReplyDeleteOh I meant to tell you how much I loved your skirt. What kind of thread did you use for the top stitching? Was it sparkly? It was so good to see you again. I hope my colorful language didn't put you or anyone off - just was so excited. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth - I'm impressed that you noticed the top stitching on my skirt! Yes, it was sparkly - I used Gutermann Sulky machine embroidery thread in a silver colour. It is quite fine so the effect is subtle. I didn't notice colorful, I think we were all animated and excited! It was great to see you again :)
ReplyDeleteHow nice to hang out with people that share the same interest! Looks like all had a great time.

ReplyDeleteOhh! I am dying of envy .... but very happy that you spent a while so nice with the other ladies ... And if ... I have sewn fabrics 250 euros per meter, obviously not for me ... I can not afford that ... but when I sewed for other clients such wonderful fabrics full of pearls and sparkling rhinestone ... or wool fabulous ... sigh ...
